Double double toil and trouble, Disney+ has teased viewers and fans of the Sanderson Sisters with the first teaser of Hocus Pocus 2, soon to be released. In honor of Disney+ Day, on November 12, 2021, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy appeared in a photo wearing their unmistakable outfits, and the insider details fans have been craving were released: cast members, dates and more.
After Disney confirmed in late 2020 that they would indeed be bringing back a second sequel to Hocus Pocus they stated Jen D’Angelo would be writing the script. Later it was announced that Anne Fletcher, director of 27 Dresses and The Proposal, would be directing.
“Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film,” said Fletcher, as reported by Digital Spy.
“I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special. This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers.”
In May 2021, Bette Midler – who had said in October 2020 that she’d be back for the sequel – Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy confirmed they would be back as Winifred, Sarah and Mary Sanderson, the three witches everyone fell in love with after the first film premiered in 1993.
According to sources, Disney+ will release the film in 2022, with Bette Midler’s tweet hinting at Autumn.
Fans will likely have to wait for an official trailer to be released in 2022, most likely three to 6 months away from the actual release of the film.
