Terms & Conditions

These terms govern the use of catabalzano.com. By opening the site you accept them. If you would rather not, please close the tab — no hard feelings.

What this site is

A portfolio and publication of the journalism, broadcast and on-camera work of Cata Balzano, and a route for professional enquiries. It is operated by Cata Balzano, Inc., based in Miami, Florida.

Using the site

Use the site lawfully, and in a way that leaves it working for everyone else.

That rules out a short list of things: breaking any law that applies to you; posting or sending material that is threatening, defamatory, obscene, or designed to harass someone; uploading anything that carries malware; probing, overloading or interfering with the site, its server or its security; and trying to reach any part of it you have not been given access to.

Access may be withdrawn from anyone who does these things, without notice.

The work on it

The writing, video, photography and design here are owned by Cata Balzano or by the publications the work first appeared in, and are protected by copyright.

You are welcome to read it, quote briefly from it with credit and a link, and share links to it. You may not republish articles in full, use the text or images commercially, or present any of it as your own work, without written permission. Write to contact@catabalzano.com and ask — permission is often given.

Several articles first appeared in other publications and are reproduced here with the original outlet credited. Rights in those pieces may sit with the outlet, and permission to reuse them has to come from the outlet rather than from this site.

Photographs are credited to the photographer or agency that holds them. A credit is not a licence: reusing a photograph means going to whoever holds it, not to this site.

Automated collection

Scraping, bulk downloading, or automated harvesting of this site — including for the purpose of training machine learning models — is not permitted without written consent.

Using the contact form

Send genuine professional enquiries. Do not use the form for unsolicited marketing, for anything unlawful, or to send files you do not have the right to send. Attachments are limited by type and size, and submissions are rate-limited.

Sending a press release or other material through the form does not create an obligation to cover it, reply to it, or keep it confidential — though enquiries are read, and answered where a reply is warranted.

What happens to what you send

Material you send through the form or by email may be read, stored, forwarded to a colleague where that is necessary to answer you, and considered editorially. Where you send something for publicity — a press release, images cleared for press use, an invitation — you are confirming you have the right to send it and that it may be used for that purpose.

Do not send anything confidential, privileged, or subject to an embargo you have not spelled out. Enquiries are deleted on a schedule once they are dealt with.

Accuracy

Articles are accurate to the best of the author’s knowledge at the time of publication and are not updated as events move on. Nothing here is legal, financial, medical or professional advice.

If you spot a factual error in a piece, please say so at contact@catabalzano.com. Corrections are made willingly.

Links out

This site links to other websites and embeds video hosted elsewhere. Those sites are not under this site’s control and it is not responsible for their content, their accuracy, or their privacy practices. Following a link is your own decision.

Availability, and the absence of guarantees

The site is provided as it is, and as it happens to be available. No promise is made that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, that the content is complete or current, or that faults will be put right.

So far as Florida law allows, all implied warranties — including any implied promise that the site is fit for a particular purpose, of merchantable quality, or free of third-party claims — are excluded.

Liability

Cata Balzano, Inc. is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from your use of this site, or from being unable to use it — including lost profit, lost data, or lost opportunity — even where the possibility had been pointed out.

Some states do not permit these exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

If your use causes a claim

If a third party brings a claim because of how you used this site or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover the resulting costs, including reasonable legal fees.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without reference to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from them belongs in the state or federal courts sitting in Miami-Dade County, Florida, and both sides submit to those courts.

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. The date below shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised version.
