Privacy Policy

This site is run by Cata Balzano. This page explains, in plain language, what happens to information when you visit — what is collected, what is not, and who else can see anything. It describes what the site actually does rather than covering every possibility, and it is kept current as the site changes.

Visitor statistics

The site keeps its own record of which pages are read and roughly how many people read them, using software that runs on this website’s own server. Nothing is sent to an advertising network and there is no cross-site tracking.

That record includes your IP address, the page you visited, the site you arrived from, and your browser type. It is used to understand which work is being read, and summaries of it are sometimes shared with brands and publications as evidence of reach. Those summaries never include IP addresses or anything identifying an individual reader.

The contact form

What you type into the contact form — your name, email address, company, and message — is emailed to Cata and also stored in this site’s dashboard so that nothing is lost if the email fails. It is kept as long as it is useful and deleted when it is not.

Files you attach are stored in a private folder that is not reachable from the web, under randomised names, and are deleted automatically after 60 days. Your IP address is recorded with the message, to make abuse of the form traceable.

Nothing submitted through the form is added to a mailing list, sold, or shared with anyone else.

Spam protection

The contact form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a submission comes from a person rather than a bot. To do that, Cloudflare receives your IP address and some technical information about your browser. Cloudflare states that it does not use this to build advertising profiles. Their privacy policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Video and other embedded content

Some pages show videos hosted on TikTok, YouTube, Vimeo or Instagram. These are deliberately built so that nothing loads from those companies until you press play. Until then you are looking at an image stored on this site, and TikTok, Google and Meta have no idea you are here.

Once you press play, that platform’s own player loads and their terms and privacy policy apply to what happens inside it, exactly as if you had opened the video on their site.

Fonts

The typefaces used here are served by Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when a page loads in order to send the font files. No cookie is set by this.

Translation

The site can be read in several languages. Where your browser can translate a page on its own, it does so on your device and nothing is sent anywhere. Where it cannot, choosing a language may open the page through Google Translate, at which point Google receives the page you are reading. That only happens if you choose a language.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Small amounts of information may be kept in your own browser to remember a preference such as your chosen language. That stays on your device. If you log in as an author or administrator, WordPress sets cookies to keep you signed in.

Affiliate links

Some articles may contain affiliate links, which earn a small commission if you buy through them. Any article containing one carries a clear notice at the top. It does not change the price you pay, and nothing is recommended because of a commission.

Your rights

You can ask what information this site holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to contact@catabalzano.com and it will be dealt with. If you are in the UK or the European Union, you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

Children

This site is not intended for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
