Out of the Closet Closes in Miami Beach

Thrift store Out of the Closet will be closing its South Beach location Sunday.

The shop, 1510 Alton Road, is the second thrift store in the area to close this year. In January, SoBe Thrifty closed at 1435 Alton Road due to a slowdown in customer traffic. Blamed were ongoing road construction and a big increase in rental prices.

Out of the Closet not only provides customers with sales and second-hand clothes at affordable prices, but also offers free HIV and STD testing. AIDS Healthcare Foundation owns the chain of stores and has pharmacies at every shop.

Since the first Out of the Closet opened in 1990, the chain has expanded throughout the country with 22 locations, also including stores in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Wilton Manors. District manager Paul Stanley declined to discuss the South Beach closing.
