Lila Nikole’s pop-up shop at Hyde Beach

Last night at Hyde Beach, there were beautiful people having a Thursday evening drink, a DJ was blasting Beyonce remix beats, and a group of trendy bikini babes were walking around while wearing pieces from designer Lila Nikole Rivera’s newest collection titled “La Flor.”

The designer brought in a pop-up shop, which she installed in a tent and filled with kaftans, swimwear from her spring 2015 and summer 2016 collections, body jewelry, arm cuffs, Indian hand-beaded bags, flash tattoos and funky sunglasses.

Meanwhile, the models walked around, serving as live displays to the shapes and designs of the latest summer collection that bring homage to flowers. “La Flor” in Spanish means, “The Flower.” It displays eccentric prints, created with photographs of actual flowers that were enlarged and put on the swimsuits.

Rivera, who is a graphic designer and skilled in Photoshop and Illustrator, took the images and rendered them off into prints that include contrasts of soft pinks, peaches and nudes, with bright neons and electric greens and blues.

“[I used] basically domestic and tropical flowers and translated them into original prints,” Rivera said. “Our collections are like a ying and a yang.”

This year, Lila Nikole Collection added active wear to the mix with leggings and hooded bra tops. She also looks to take the brand into a new phase of creating children’s wear, accessories and as she mentioned, “Your full look for the beach.”
